A young clarinetist acquaintance of mine was about to play basset horn in a
public performance of the Grand Partita when something fell off the
instrument and the instrument was unable to speak at all (it most probably
was a spring somewhere deciding to "spring" somewhere else). Through the
lucky coincidence of someone having a few rubber bands and having John Mack
around (who knows a thing or two about woodwinds) disaster was averted and
the performance was able to go on as scheduled.
