Stewart: I can certainly relate to this. I retired, literally, from the
business about eight years ago: sold all my horns, did some arranging, but
not a note until six weeks ago when I felt the urge to buy a clarinet on
Ebay.
The first couple of sessions lasted less than ten minutes with my lip
hanging down by my belly-button. My endurance now is at the half-hour point
and I can hear the result improving. I don't expect ever to get back to
playing as well as I would like to tell myself I used to, but the slow and
painful process is making progress. Re-training, not training, is slow but I
am encouraged by the fact that I am producing a reaonably good sound--for a
limited time that I expect will increase. FYI, I am 72. Chuck
