My opinion is that Bass Clarinet is an instrument that has some flexibility
in what is considered good tone. My new Buffet bass clarinet allows
for clarity in the uppermost range that I could never achieve before.
It is an instrument which is in one sense still under development, as
improvements recently being made are significant. Tone concept
over the years has in my opinion become somewhat brighter and
"more centered".

Sax as an example has an enormous range of colour. We can distinguish
one player from another very easily. A wide range of " tonal personality"
is out there. Clarinet has greater strict standards and expectations to
adhere to. Yes, players have there own sounds, but I find the differences
less dramatic then among saxophonists. I find Bass Clarinet players
sounds also more individual then clarinettists. I must emphasize, that
this is just one players opinion and experience.

Recordings are good source of insperation, when live music is
difficult to access. What are, in the lists opinion, some of the best
recordings of solo bass clarinet?
