Subj: [kl] Sharp D solutions??
Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 10:42:49 -0500

My D, treble staff forth line, is consistently sharp.

I correct with chops, but without the extra effort this D speaks
(approx 15 cents) above any other note on my horn. The rest of the
horn is more easily within reach of where I want to put pitch.

I have never made technical tuning adjustments to a horn, and have a few
questions.

1) Pad height. Lowering the pad would help but makes the
note a little stuffier. Seems wrong to kill some resonance.

2) I've noticed tape shiming tone holes. What type of tape.
Top or bottom of hole. Any instructions on this
proceduce appreciated.

3) I was taught to shim loose tendons with a coat of clear nail polish
on the inner rim compensating for loose cork. Can this be used on
the inside of a tone whole to reduce size?It is easily removed.

4) Any other words of enlightenment appreciated.

Cheers
