Does anyone know of a formal course in woodwind repair?

Yes, in fact we're offering one at Virginia Commonwealth University in
Richmond on June 18-22, 1 credit, meeting 2:00-5:00 in the afternoon. It's
MUED 583-003, #11961. Information is available by calling 804-828-1166 or
<gradmusic@-----. Enrollment will be limited, so it may not be possible
to simply walk-on on the first day.

Chuck West

I've been repairing and tweaking my own instruments for years. Recently
people have been entrusting me with their instruments for simple re-padding,
joint corks, and finding leaks.

Dealing with mechanical and acoustical problems appeals to my engineer's
need
to "find out how it works" and fix it or make it better. I must admit that
clarinets and saxophones are easier to work on than flutes, oboes and
piccolos
but they're all fun to work on. I've purchased the good books on the
subject,
and have invented a few tricks of my own.

I find that I really enjoy working on woodwinds, and would like to consider
doing it professionally. Does anyone know of a formal course in woodwind
repair? I seem to remember hearing about a intensive summer course at a
local
university, but they no longer give it.

I am in the Philadelphia area.

many thanks.
