Depends on who you are and where you are at. If you are in a city with a
local community ensemble (I'll use that for a generic term, as you didn't
state whether your symphony was for winds or for orchestra) that doesn't
take in money, then that would be a good place to start.

If the music is fairly cutting edge, or you are a college student, then
a good option for you is to speak with various ensemble directors at your
university. My roommate is a composition major here at NMSU (as well as
our principal clarinetists in our top winds group) and finished his first
major symphony for band about a month ago. Using Finale 2000, he
published his own professional looking score and parts, had them bound at
Kinkos, and presented it to our director, along with a MIDI CD as a
demo. And what do you know - the world premiere of Joshua M. Coleman's
First Symphony for band will be this upcoming March 20!

So that's what you'll need to do - print out a score (several, if you have
several ensembles as options), and if possible, burn a CD made with a
fairly decent sound card (we used an AWE64 with some MIDI enhancement
software so it sounded fairly good with minor balance problems), and
distribute them with your contact information. If they haven't contacted
you within a week, you contact them and see what's going on.

Good luck!
