Was that the quake in '89? Loma Prieta? I didn't even know it happened
until I arrived at S.F. State for a clarinet choir rehearsal, and there
was a mass exodus of 30,000 students. I finally stopped one of them rush-
ing past me and asked, "What the hell is going on?" I got a funny look
for that. It's supposed to feel like you have flat tires when driving
during a quake, but I didn't feel a thing on the way to school. It would
have been a different story had I been on the Bay Bridge, no doubt. The
aftershocks, however, did keep me awake for 4 days hence...
