A few weeks ago I was confused about the LP/HP distinction, and did some
google searches, and that's one of the more frequently mentioned "high
pitch"es I found. A few days ago I found these web pages, which mention
several different "high pitch" standards that have been used at different
times in different places:

http://www.spiritsound.com/pitch.html
http://www.angelfire.com/music2/thecornetcompendium/early_history_4.html

The Cornet Compendium page describes 462.5Hz as a "military band, high
pitch" standard, citing pp. 22 of:

Scott, Marshall Lynn. "The American Piston Valved Cornets and Trumpets of
the Shrine to Music Museum." D.M.A. diss., University of Wisconsin-
Madison, 1988.

On further inspection, it appears that 462.5Hz may have been primarily a
military brass band phenomenon.
