We just spent a day in Paris and were able to try some Legere reeds at
"Woodwind and Brasswind" near the music conservatory there. Unfortunately we
didn't know until we were in the area that there is a music museum right by
the store. We had done some other sightseeing in Paris first and were too
late for that. I guess that will have to wait for another visit.
Anyway, we had never tried Legere reeds so were very curious. They didn't
have any of the quarter sizes there so we tried 2 1/2, 3, and 3 1/2s. 3/1/2
was way too stuffy sounding and 2 1/2's were too soft so we stuck with 3's.
We were quite impressed with these reeds. In any case, I think they'll serve
well for practicing and teaching. We did notice by trying several reeds of
the same strength that they do vary. A couple of the 3's we didn't like at
all and preferred some above others. We also tried bass clarinet Legere
reeds and bought a 2 1/2 and a 3 for further testing at home. A guy from the
store there said no professionals in France will touch Legere reeds. That
certainly doesn't stop me from wanting to try them though.

Question: Does anyone know if Rico Grande Concert reeds for alto clarinet
still exist? We have tried ordering them here and no one can get them for us
any more. We also asked in Paris and they didn't have them there either.
