>>According to the book.......does this mean you have not tested it???

No, this means that I don't want to take credit where it is due someone
else.

>>Not true. Sandpaper does not destroy the "sound" (whatever that means).

I've found the opposite to be true. It's entirely possible that I'm not
sandpapering correctly, but the book ("Selection, Care, and Adjustment of
Single Reeds" by Larry Guy) alerted me to this. Just as I don't want to take
undue credit for this book's accuracies, I don't want to take undue blame
for its inaccuracies.

> >And, if the reed is=20
>>severely warped, you will remove the same amount of material with less=20
>>precision with a knife.

Well, yeah. But this isn't supposed to correct a reed that's already warped.
What it is intended to do (again, according to this book, and I've found it
to be true) is PREVENT a new reed from warping. It's not supposed to remove
actual reed fiber.

>>According to Klug and Smith, you can't store on glass because it will=20
>>warp. So - your explanation regarding storage conflicts with itself.

(and, from a different message)

>>The storage on glass technique obviously has its believers and
>>non-believers. I am one of the former, and my reeds play wonderfully when
>>stored on glass!

It's interesting to see this illustrated here! I personally haven't had any
problem with the reeds warping when drying on glass either.

(from yet another message)

>>The reed warping on glass seems to depend on whether the pores are closed yet
>>or not.

I should have mentioned that this book reccomends drying the reeds UPSIDE
DOWN (table up) for the first 5 or 6 days. After that, storing them in reed
cases is reccomended. I would assume this is due to the pore sealing
situation.

It's interesting to see how a seemlingly simple question can lead to such a
full-blown discussion. I believe I'll step out of it now, as I don't want to
get into a potential flame war, and my only authoritative source of
information is the book I've mentioned. That and I'm sure Mr. Guy wouldn't
appreciate it if I sent the book to the entire list! :)
