Neil, Yes the reed stays stationery. It is impossible for me to hurt the
flat part of the mouthpiece because I'm very gentle and precise. I had
to develop this technique because when I'm playing a gig and doubling on
flute and saxophone, sometimes my reed doesn't respond when I pick up
the clarinet, so I take of the reed, wet it, and perform my ritual,
quickly. It almost always works. ANNIE
