It's interesting to do pieces at different tempi, and to discover that
each tempo requires a different approach.
I can't remember whether I've posted this here before, so I'll do a
short version: I once played both Brahms Sonatas with a (famous)
pianist who played *very* slowly, something like crotchet=60 for the F
minor.
I thought, just before I came in, that I could move the tempo on, but
resisted it, playing subsequently sometimes even slower than him.
I think I learnt a lot.
At the end, he said, "Do you think it was perhaps, too slow?"
"No-oo," I said.
Of course, it then did speed up slightly.
The results in the concert were quite good, I think. No one said it was
too slow.
