James Marioneau noted:

<<<When I was studying the quintet back in the dark ages, my teacher told me
that a "Landler" is like a German beer-drinking folksong. . . .Maybe that
has something to do with the fact that I just about everyone I met in Norman
this past summer drank beer at nearly every meal, the concerts were so close
to some excellent bars, and beer was even served in the lobby of the
auditorium, and we will be in New Orleans this summer. Any comments?>>>

Just one comment -- three words of warning from a transplanted Louisianan:
"Beware The Hurricanes."

(Or more colloquially, "y'all be right careful drinkin' them hurricanes!")

A hurricane is much more than a mere tropical storm -- it's a sweet purple
beverage containing God-knows-what in which no alcohol can be detected.
(Nevertheless, it is indeed there). My Dad described them as a "one-way
ticket to a hangover."

New Orleans is one of the few places in the U.S. where drinking in the
streets is legal. (Indeed, it's encouraged!) Just be sure to use the
universal plastic cup, as using a glass made of glass will get you a
citation.

Alas, I cannot join y'all in Nawlins' this summer. As Ms. O'Hara would
say, I am pea-green with envy.
