Jim, in the entire repertoire of Mozart's compositions, I believe there
is not a single triple-time dance identified as a Landler. Thus, if you
believe that the 2nd trio of K. 581 IS a Landler, you must put forward
some evidence that such is the case.

It is not enough to "feel" that those were Mozart's intentions. I can
just as well suggest that he felt it to be a rhumba. How you or I feel
about what he intended to do does not constitute evidence.

Nonetheless, I'm willing to be convinced. What HARD evidence do you
have that that particular dance was popular or even known in Austria ca.
1785-1795, and what has enabled you to reach the conclusion that a
Landler is what Mozart had in mind for that trio.

I'm not trying to be difficult but we are way beyond how you or I feel
about Mozart's intentions. Incidentally, your teacher was correct about
a Landler being a German beer drinking song, but I believe that such was
not the case much before 1825-1850. So we have a calendar problem not
disakin to suggesting that the Charleston was a popular dance in 18th
century Vienna. It just doesn't work.
