Certainly the most popular in California, the United Spirit Association also has
camps in Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Arizona. This is a dedicated organization,
with excellent staff and training in a supportive environment. I attended their
camps three years in a row in California -- once in Long Beach, and twice in Santa
Cruz -- as drum major of my high school band program. Those Summers at drum major
camp were among the highlights of my high school experience. I attribute winning
several sweepstakes drum major awards, in appreciable part, to the skills and in-
spiration I acquired at the USA camps. Of course, 13 years later, those years
of childhood have faded from relevance, but I can imagine worse memories to have
of one's life as a teenager.
