I too have complained about being typecast as cuckoo. &:-)

When we played Mahler 1, I signed my e-mail "principal cuckoo".
Almost everyone gets to imitate the bird call, but the clarinet 1
has first & most frequent cuckoo calls.

The interpretation of SS Carnival Cuckoos that I most enjoyed was
to play persistent and unvarying, clock-like.
Maybe this is what TonyP meant by "sending the movement up"?
