I played trumpet for many years during my public school teach days (and was
pretty good too if I do say so myself *proudly* - played in church
often). I could never play clarinet unless several hours of rest were
between the instruments - the trumpet (and trombone too - I remember
playing trombone in the third band at U. Michigan when I went back for a
masters in Music. Ed.) really wreaked havoc with the clarinet "feel." I
could form the embouchure and all - and my theory was that it just
strengthened muscles that I normally might not use - but it also
desensitized my lips - and I use my upper lips an incredible amount when
playing clarinet.........

So - there you have it.
