Laura,

You aren't crazy but you will experience some difficulty when switching from
the woodwind to the brass if you are playing in a pit situation or something
like it. I play trumpet and have done so since high school (1966-1969),
even though clarinet was my primary instrument. Originally it was for
marching band, but I find it useful when I play in pits with limited space
and there is a need for an extra trumpet with a limited number of entrances.
You do have to practice every day though. When I don't have time for
practice, I take my nylon cup mouthpiece with me and whip it out whenever I
have the chance, just as a way of maintaining my embouchure. I don't know
if there is a nylon cup french horn mouthpiece. It is nice to have one as
there is no great temperature change when placing it on the lips. Have some
fun and if you find that it is causing trouble, you can always quit without
an damage to your clarinet embouchure. Good luck!
