Ken, great summary of the idiosyncracies of the Leblanc paperclip contrabass!
One additional thought: I was sure the previous owner of my low C Leblanc
paperclip, which I bought several years ago from Charles Fail Music, had
ruined the floor peg because he or she had filed notches on the side of the
peg every 3/4 inch or so using a 1/4" round file. However, I discoverd that
when the nut is tightened (this has to be done by feel while slightly
wiggling and rotating the peg), the body of the rod (which which is threaded
on one end to take the wing nut) moves slightly horizontally into the notch
thus providing a positive, non-friction "stop" for each notch. Looks like
hell, works like a charm!
