Tony Pay noted re Messiaen's "Oiseaux Exotique" --

<<<There's an Eb and bass, both of which are part of the 'orchestra'. That's
not to say that the parts are unimportant, or indeed, easy.

The main parts, however, are both in Bb, and constitute a sort of solo
'duo'.

Playing these parts accurately, audibly, coherently and together, is central
to the piece.>>>

Thanks muchly, Tony -- this is very helpful.

I am not one of this orchestra's usual players -- they will undoubtedly be
playing the duo, hence the need for reinforcements. Since I don't own or
play one of the big fish (i.e., a bass), I only have to schlep the wee lad.

Best regards,

kjf
