Rien,
The simple answer to your question is that there
are probably very few Jazzers/Folkies on this list and
a true Gliss is done completely with the throat. this
is a folk technique which is not only relatively
unknown to "trained" players but is in fact TABOO. It
involves doing everything we symphony-style players
are trained not to do! I am a black sheep. I play Jazz
and Klezmer and Balkan music and do this regularly.
To put it succinctly, in order to do real Glisses
you need to constrict the throat to the point that you
are actually bending the pitch. (So much for either
tone or pitch control, much less air support!) At that
point, you use your lip and your throat to do all the
work. It is that same technique as the altissimo on a
saxophone. As for the fingers, they stay pretty much
on the holes depending on your reed and the specific
register of the gliss. If this makes any sense at all,
then I am a bloody pedagogical genius ;-) Good luck.
