alright. i would have written this sooner but friday our power was out due
to the huge storm that went through the south u.s. (i don't know if there's
any non-u.s. citizens on this list or not) and yesterday i was at my
grandparents. just to let you know, i DID keep my chair. i beat her by three
points on a 100 point scale. she can't seem to keep a steady beat on this
one part either, though the only reason i beat her was because i played my
F-A scales all 3 octaves and she only played E-Ab 3 octaves and played them
too fast. (we got the exact same score on our pieces). but it's not over
because she's challenging me again this friday (grrr).
to try to reply to everyone's help, (ha! as if i could remember everything i
just read - not with my brain at least.) first of all, thank you. i'll get
to try all the advice out this week. who ever it was that thought they had
played the same version of figaro that i did (sorry, i don't remember
ANYONE's name. my memory, you know....) it sounds like you're right. those 2
measures you mentioned are the hardest for me but i already keep my right
hand down.
i already take private clarinet lessons. i take them from my band director's
wife, which i don't see any problem with.
i don't think it's possible for me to have any more patience than what i've
had over the past month. i do take it slow. i'll even practice 1 group of
16th notes for 5-10 minutes just so i can get it played evenly every single
time, though what a lot of good that has done. :)
i have tried a few times to just play the 1st note on the beat but i wasn't
sure if it was actually helping or not. but i'll go back to that again.
and to whoever (or would it be whomever...?) it was that thought the quote
was "sick", i did put it on there, but i meant it in no way to offend
anybody, and of course i don't think it true. it was from a past mailing
list i was on for artists and we were talking about...um, i think it was
something like insane laws and weird stuff like that and someone just meant
it as a joke. it has nothing to do with my beliefs or thoughts on the world.
i'm sorry if i offended you in anyway.
thank you all again,
gnatalie

i hope i replied to everyone's advice in this letter but if i didn't i am
sorry. ;)
