Another oddity about double sharps and double flats is that they are not
affected by the key signature. In other words if you are in the key of D (f
and c sharp) and you have an f double sharp, the note is just f double sharp
(the same as g natural), not f sharp double sharp (the same as g sharp). I
know it is weird, but that's the way it is done. That is also why sometimes
you might see a natural sign in in front of a sharp sign when a composer
wants the f double sharp to become just an f sharp, although you might also
see a natural which will clear out the double sharp and make it an f natural.
Different composers and publishers do it different ways, so sometimes it it
gets confusing. Good luck.
