"The Conversation" makes explicit another aspect of non-linearity
which perhaps this thread has glossed over.

Namely, difference tones can be useful, as opposed to being
interesting by-products that complicate the situation.
We're all aware (if we invest the effort to learn) that music
depends on our brain recognizing sets of harmonic partials and unifying
them into single 'tones' with unique tone colors or tonal characters.
Difference tones contribute to this effect.
For me, "The Conversation" dramatizes this contribution and makes
it more explicit.
