I seem to recall reading on the list that it was important
to swab the mouthpiece (if at all) from bottom to top. I
think the theory was that the cloth was less likely wear the
tip and top rails that way. Or maybe it was top to
bottom. Hmmm, top to bottom makes sense, maybe, since the
cloth bunches up at the bottom of the opening. Oh well.

I did once make my own swab. I bought one of these trick
silk handkerchiefs at a magic shop. This was the sort that
when you pulled it through your hand, it turned inside out
and thus, appeared to change color. Well, I more or less
got it to work (and was rewarded with absolutely
disbelieving looks from someone who happened to notice the
change.) However, it tore itself apart fairly quickly.
One has to do a fairly small swab because it is, in essence,
four layers thick.
