My only thought with regard to a response to Doug's post is that people of
that time couldn't hear it in canned form.....no recordings, no
opportunities to hear works of that period without actually going and
listening. It is much like going to a new movie or play - and the
audience at a play - ESPECIALLY today - is very vocal and clear about what
they like and don't like.

I love a good movie when the audience is so into it that their reactions
are part of the entire event. It then is no longer just a movie - it is a
fun, spontaneous event!!
