Subj: [kl] The "one-chord" clarinet solo on THE MACARENA that saved the gig

Our duo, "Ramlin' Annie" showed up to perform for our Valentine's gig at
the Plum Creek Country Club, and I started to get nervous when various
members wanted to dance to "line-dances". I looked down into the
indicator window of my synthesizer and noticed that I had the "Macarena"
and the "Electric Slide". I could barely remember programming them, let
alone memorizing the lyrics. So I told the audience that I had two
dances that Al Gore had taught me at his last party. Since I could not
sing the tunes and I was not in the mood to play the saxophone, I opted
for the clarinet. I have never tried to play a line dance a solo, but I
felt like I was stuck. I'm sure that Andrew Firth would have felt much
more comfortable, sy with his disco version of the BABY ELEPHANT WALK.
It took us 15 minutes to get through the two tunes, and after that the
members were ready for slow-dancing. We each got paid in full and
invited back for the APRIL FOOLS DANCE. ANNIE
