The music school here in Germany where I teach has taken all mouthpieces out
of the clarinets they rent to students. It's a hygenic thing. The old
mouthpieces were quite disgusting. So the students must buy a mouthpiece if
they want to rent a clarinet. So far, they have always taken the one I
recommend.
Here, people are used to being given specific instructions on what school
supplies to buy. Even the colors of folders are important. They must be
exactly what the teacher says, no variations. Not too much room for
creativity here. But people are used to doing what they're told, so at least
I can say it's easy for me with recommending clarinet things.
