Swabbing the clarinet

I believe a good reason for swabbing through the bell is: Constant
friction of the swab from the top might enlarge the end of the bore
(very slightly) because the entry there is smaller than starting from
the bell.
For those worried about the swab getting caught in the top joint, I
suggest something that I heard Gigliotti has, anther piece of tape sewn
to the bottom of the swab. If it gets stuck, one can pull it back out.
Pupils have a habit of bunching up the swab, after use, and tucking it
into a corner of the case.
I advocate lying it flat over the instrument. This way it doesn't get
too creased and some of the dampness gets to whole instrument.

By the way, how many have tried to take out a swab from the case,
without a knot in the tape part.This can happen quite often. One has to
untie the knot, of course. But if you TRIED to make a knot when taking

the swab out of the case, chances are you couldn't do it.
