Walter,

Have you tried changing the outside dimensions without changing the inside?
I've seen one German clarinet maker do this. It was at the Frankfurt
Musikmesse (music trade fair) he had normal - looking barrels and one shaped
like a tulip. He told me it made a "darker, more Viennese-like" sound.

Of course, I've done resonance spectal tuning to my own barrels (changing
only the outside) and was astounded at the results. I have control barrels
without the changes - the difference is there.
