I acknowledge the validity of the concern about the abrasiveness of
tooth-paste as expressed by Dee and Bill.

It should be pointed out that the white residue in my experience only occurs
on the outside surface on top of the mouthpiece around the protective patch
and at the extremity of the beak, and in this context any abrading action of
the paste is probably not specially relevant.

I only need apply the toothpaste treatment once every couple of months, and
between times, a rinse in water and swabbing after playing suffices.

I figure I'll be six-feet under pushing up daisies, or more likely, have
outgrown my mouthpieces, long before any abrasion becomes a problem.

Michael, in case you want a second opinion, I also find that a
20-second dip in white vinegar (cork and all) does the job without
effort or risk.
