FWIW, I also remove the mouthpiece before swabbing, but I DO swab it
separately. I have yet to wear out a mouthpiece, and unless I start
swabbing with sandpaper, I doubt I ever will. IMHO, a silk swab is just
not going to be abrasive enough to cause any significant damage to my
mouthpiece within my lifetime.
