I have often had the urge to just excuse myself, put the phone down and go
practice the Drum Solo from the third movement of Buddy Rich's West Side
Story, while they're still on the line.

I've found the best way to get rid of telemarketers. Simply say, "Oh, I'm
terribly sorry! I'm in the middle of dinner. If you could just give me
your
home number I'd be happy to call you back!" Then when they say, "Sorry,
I'm
not allowed to give out my home phone number," reply with, "See how I feel
about strangers calling my house!"

The company usually takes you off of their list. It works. Trust me.
