Just to add to my response to that: of course, that's what music *is*,
isn't it?-)
Music is 'real', and we 'hear' it, but it doesn't 'exist'.
(Compare, 'Santa Claus' is 'real' to many people, but he doesn't
'exist'.)
Music is a function of us, and how we are, not of stuff outside us. So
it's not surprising that it begins in the perception of difference
tones.
