Now give them the next lesson in this sequence. Walter may be the only other
person besides you and myself to know how the difference tone keeps you from
humming the same pitch that you are playing on your instrument. (This is
important to know if your music requires you to growl, or as I have seen is
some music, play one note, hum a required pitch which will in turn produce a
difference tone - Voila - you are playing a trio with yourself, and if you
know the weird fingerings, you can get the clarinet to produce 2 - yes I said
two - different tones at the same time, then you have a quartet with
yourself.) Unfortunately it cannot produce the expected harmonic progressions
or voicings we all have grown to know and love.
