That's exactly what Walter has been describing to us when he has
posted about Moennig bore and so forth. The interior shape makes a big
difference.

If you want to read a little bit about this, O. Lee Gibson's book
"Clarinet Acoustics" (Indiana Univ. Press) has a compact overview and is
inexpensive. I think you can find the book at www.vcisinc.com, whose
owner posts here occasionally.
