Rimsky-Korsakov composed three concertos while he was Inspector of Navy
Bands. He wrote in his memoirs that he did it because he wanted to learn
what works and what doesn't as regards the interactions between the soloist
and accompanying instruments (my spin on the composer's words).

His Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Orchestra has already been added to my
Web page, but I thought it would be nice to have the complete set available
to everyone. I have just uploaded his "Variations on a theme by Glinka for
Oboe and Wind Orchestra in G minor" to my Web site. The theme is from
Glinka's romance "What's the Buzz, Babe?" (my original and liberal
translation of the original Russian).

In any case, the Finale .MUS and the MIDI files are available for
downloading and the playing pleasure of your oboist friends and family
members. Pass the word on. I can't get the theme out of my head. It's
driving me MAD. Soon to come: R-K's showstopping Trombone Concerto.

My Web site for your newcomers is
http://webchem.csudh.edu/musicfiles/clarmusi.htm

Happy playing all,

Oliver
