Subj: [kl] chaos being sold for freedom...

Bravo. A clear description of the problems and their root causes in both
school and society. This was the reason I quit teaching. If you can't or
aren't allowed to maintain discipline, you can't have a good band program.

(I also see the result in my present profession as a criminal court
reporter. Just today, two 17-year-old boys were charged with taking it in
their own hands to get back $360 stolen from them in a bad drug deal and
wound up shooting a third boy, 18 years old. With any luck, at least one of
the two will spend the rest of his natural life in the state penitentiary.
The tearful parents sat through the 10-hour hearing. I wonder what they
were doing when their sons were out in the middle of the countryside, with
.38 caliber weapons, shooting a stealing drug dealer? I still have to
listen to it, but I'm not in a position of having to try to correct the
problem.)
