Klarinet Archive - Posting 000040.txt from 2001/02
From: Mark Charette <charette@-----.org> Subj: [kl] Be careful of MAILER-DAEMON messages Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2001 09:37:57 -0500
Twice today I have received messages purporting to be from the MAILER-DAEMON but are really viruses.
Messages from a MAILER-DAEMON are normally messages from a mail server telling you that there's been some problem with a message _you_ sent. In both these cases there was an executable (.exe) file attached.
DO NOT OPEN EXECUTABLE FILES PURPORTING TO BE FROM THE MAILER-DAEMON! The most a MAILER-DAEMON should have is a problem report and a copy of a message _you_ sent. Anything more (attachments other than text) are _highly_ suspect!

produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.
