Don,

I would suggest you try even less of an opening on the Bb/register key—less
than the thickness of a dime, or if you have a set of feeler gauges, between
.026" and .029." You might experience an even easier speaking second register,
high b's and c's that are not as sharp and b naturals and c's over the
register break that, also, are not as sharp. You'll know when you're getting
too close to closed because b natural will start to get fuzzy sounding.
