One more possibility comes to mind: make sure that the upper and lower
joints line up correctly. If they don't, this could be the source of the
problem. Also, make sure that the thumb tube is lined up correctly. I
once had a clarinet with this problem.
I also would like to make a previous point clear. I don't feel that
everyone will have trouble articulating on a C85. I personally have a
problem with it, so I think that it may be possible that she could have
the same problem. There are some excellent players I know who sound
great on them.
