Here is a post I received from a Northwestern Alumni

anyone on the list offer any help? Thanks. Lori Lovato >>

Gosh, Lori, this is a tough one! I'm a former NU band librarian, and I'm not
aware of any formal list of commissions ever being kept, at least in the
library. Memorial pieces should be a little easier to track down - offhand,
the obvious one is Mark Camphouse's "Whatsoever Things Are True". I know of
at least one other I played the year after JPP died, but can't remember right
now - I'll find out, though. There was also that piece that Northwestern
commissioned from Karel Husa in JP's honor - was supposed to be for his
retirement, but he died before he retired. Surely Mallory Thompson should
know about most of these? As far as the Northshore Band is concerned, I'm
not sure any more who would be the best source with Barb Buehlman also gone
now. Ernie Kettnich, a bassoonist, used to be a sort of band historian, but
I have no idea whether he's still alive - he was one of the oldest members
when I was in the band! Marietta would still be the single best source I can
think of, and also the best person to know who of the old timers is still
around who might remember ever playing a piece dedicated to the band.
Honestly, I can't think of anything from my years in it. We certainly
performed a lot of new music at Midwest, but I can't recall any of it being
dedicated to JPP or to us. This is a worthwhile project, though! Has Paul
put it out to the NUMBalums yet? I'll check with my dad, too - he's also a
former NU band librarian.
