Lyons C Clarinet
In the job from which I have recently retired we used about 40 Lyons C
clarinets.
I can confirm the comments which have already appeared.
It is no substitute for a "proper" C instrument.
It has been very useful in introducing young children to the instrument. The
tone is excellent and the intonation is good, considering the compromises
involved. It can provide a wonderful bass for a recorder group, much better
than a bass recorder.
The keywork is unreliable and I hope it can be improved but I consider the
instrument to be good value. I often wonder if the concept had been developed
by, for instance, Yamaha, would the instrument have been more reliable.
Arthur Acheson.
