I presume that that would be Mr. Vandoren's personal mouthpiece design, or
a derivative of it, since he named it for himself. Another example is the
Selmer HS (named for Henri Selmer) and it's progressively more open (and
more popular) variants the HS* and HS**. Selmer got into the mouthpiece
business making his personal model for others, but some wanted a more open
facing than the extremely close one he used, and thus a "star" was
born. :-) Jazz players looking for a still more open mouthpiece resulted
in the HS**.
