Unless you feel REALLY comfortable about completely disassembling and
reassembling a clarinet, and remembering where all the screws and little
slivers of key cork go, and how to adjust the keys afterward, I think I'd
suggest the professional route. Someone with STRONG mechanical skills
might tackle it, but expect it to take a VERY long and frustrating time to
finally get it adjusted reasonably well. Unless you are really good or
really lucky, the best outcome you are likely to get is only being out the
$20 and a lot of time when you give up and take it to the shop for a REAL
repad. (Not that I follow my own advice in matters like this -- my first
experience with the saxophone was tearing apart and repadding an old
C-melody about 20 years ago now. You can learn a LOT about an instrument
that way! THEN I learned to play it, and its variously-sized
cousins. Someday I'll get that old thing playing like I want it to,
probably after re-repadding it with resonator pads.)

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
