I still keep the Rene Dumont I got used in 1973 after I'd completed my
first school year of clarinet playing (my senior year in high school). I
swore to my folks that I wanted to continue playing, and they paid about
$75 for it. I promptly tried out for the University of Notre Dame marching
band (and failed, having no marching experience - I PASSED the music
audition!) But that was the ONLY time I failed an audition for a band,
either in college or since. I was glad to have the backup horn a few years
ago when the Air Force sent me to Panama for 10 weeks. I figured I would
need something to occupy my free time, but did not want to bring the good
Selmer. The Rene Dumont served me well, even allowing me the opportunity
to sit in with the local Army band for a concert in the park. I almost
never play the old thing now, but I do keep it up, and would not dream of
parting with it. For 4 years (until I bought the Selmer at graduation) it
was a very important piece of my life.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
