Not sure how you can even make a reasonable deduction as to the key of
the piece. Did I miss something in the original post?

Hopefully I posted that the key is C Major.

I appreciate the various replies that people have posted. I've
saved them, but the bottom line is that I'm way over my head, and I
followed a suggestion from Ed Lacy to buy a textbook and to start
reading & listening.
A few months from now, I hope to be able to keep up my end of this
conversation. I certainly am not able to do so at this moment.
If anyone else is looking for an introductory text, the two that
were recommended to me were:

Scales, Intervals, Keys, Triads, Rhythm and Meter by Clough, Conley and
Boge (published by W. W. Norton) which includes a CD of ear training

Basic Materials in Music Theory by Harder and Steinke (published Allyn
and Bacon)

....and while I'm typing, please allow me to vent. I just
finished a confrontation with an art teacher who put the pressure on my
daughter to "be artistic or I will fail you." Where do 'teachers'
like this come from?
