Dear Benjamen, I am happy for you that you sound like yourself and have
a successful career as a freelance musician. I have a rather unique
career myself, though not nearly as successful as yours. However, I
personally like the way that Jon Manasse sounds, and though he is not my
teacher (David Weber was) I still enjoy getting his type of sound. At
least it's unique in my business, playing gigs and performances of
mainly jazz and popular music. I sure am glad I don't sound like Pete
Fountain, or a few other people I won't name in the jazz world. Thank
God I had a role model like Jon Manasse. I knew Peter Hadcock way back
when, in 1967 when I attended a small music camp called "Red Fox" in New
Marlboro, Mass. and I chose not to study with him because I didn't think
he sounded all that good at the time. But that's not the point.
Everybody has the right to learn from anybody they want to and to
develop their own personal style & concepts for themselves. I like the
French style. I don't think anybody would ever mistake me for Jon
Manasse when I do my version of "Mambo Jambo". ANNIE
