Dear Bill, In my case, I took my first clarinet lesson from David Weber,
now a Vandoren Rep. and advocate of the 5RV Lyre mouthpiece, and I have
always concentrated on having a bright, French style, clarinet tone. I
even played with the double lip embochure until I was 21. Except back
then I had a beautiful Kasper 13 mouthpiece than eventually got stolen.
Everybody was playing on them for a while because we all admired Robert
Marcellus. If a person were to find the set-up of a clarinetist that
they admired, I would certainly advise them to try that set-up for
themselves, see if they liked it. and then do everyting they could to
study from the person who sounded good to them.
If I were young, I would go to Eastman and study with Jon Manasse,
who also plays on a Vandoren 5 RV Lyre. If I couldn't afford to go to
Eastman, then I would track him down and study with him in NYC or
Rochester. ANNIE
