No, I don't think that qualifies as "tragic." I had a colleague several
years ago who had cancer of the brain. Through chemotherapy and radiation,
doctors were able to kill the tumor; however, in the process, they also
killed much of his brain. So he lived for several years, and finally died
pretty much as a vegetable. He left two young children. I think that is a
tragedy. The question of which edition of a work is used in various
circumstances may be disappointing, or irritating to some others, but this
has no relationship to tragedy as I understand it.
